With the implementation of mass deportations in the United States, many immigrants are struggling to find their next steps. Mexico’s government is fighting to stay ahead of the curve, offering many vital initiatives concerning Mexican migrants located in the U.S. Among these programs are a mobile application, “ConsulApp Contigo,” and the Mexico Embraces You strategy. Both of which aim to assist Mexicans in their return to their country of origin.

'Mexico Embraces You' Strategy

The “Mexico te abraza” strategy, which President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo spearheaded, is a multifaceted approach to providing support to Mexican migrants in the United States, especially those facing deportation. President Sheinbaum Pardo encourages preparedness and calamity: "A nuestros paisanos y paisanas decirles que, primero, que no están solos; y, segundo, que también hay que guardar la calma, que hay que ver también cómo se desarrolla durante estas semanas el proceso."

"To our fellow countrymen and women, first, they are not alone; and second, they must also remain calm..." (Sheinbaum Pardo, 2025)

Key Components

  1. Access to Social Programs: Migrants returning to Mexico will have access to all welfare programs.

  2. Economic Support: The "Tarjeta Bienestar Paisano" will provide an initial support of 2,000 pesos to cover immediate transportation costs.

  3. Social Security Affiliation: Returning citizens will be affiliated with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), granting them access to various insurance schemes, including sickness and maternity, work risks, disability and life, retirement, and daycare services.

  4. Employment Opportunities: The strategy includes provisions for employment.

  5. Housing Support: Access to social housing assistance will be available through the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) and Infonavit.

  6. Identity Documentation: The Secretariat of Gobernación will coordinate the issuance of identity documents and CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población) as needed.

  7. Coordination with States and Organizations: The strategy involves agreements with border states (Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas) and states with large Mexican populations in the U.S. (Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Michoacán, Guanajuato, State of México, Sinaloa, Jalisco). It also coordinates with national and international organizations, the Human Rights Commission, and the Business Coordinating Council (CCE) for reception and job placement.

Conclusion

The country of Mexico is fully prepared to welcome back its countrymen and women with open arms. The goal for 'Mexico Embraces You' is to provide a reliable, dignified return to your birthplace country. By utilizing these programs, you are setting up you and your family for a stable future.
